SLIME CARE GUIDE
Everything You Need to Know to Keep Your Slime Fresh, Stretchy & Amazing
Welcome to the Slimeminator Slime Care Guide — your complete guide to caring for slime, fixing sticky slime, storing slime, using slime activator, and getting the best possible experience from your handmade slime.
New to slime? You're in the right place.
Slime is a handmade product, which means its texture can naturally change depending on temperature, storage, playtime, and slime type.
A slime becoming sticky, stiff, or less stretchy doesn't necessarily mean it's ruined.
Most slime problems are easy to fix!
Let's get your slime back to its satisfying, stretchy self. 💖
🖐️ BEFORE YOU PLAY WITH YOUR SLIME
Three simple habits can make a BIG difference.
1. WASH AND DRY YOUR HANDS
Always play with slime using clean, dry hands.
Dirt, oils, food, lotions, and other residue can transfer into your slime and change its texture.
Clean hands = cleaner slime = longer-lasting slime.
2. USE A CLEAN SURFACE
Play with your slime on a clean, smooth, non-porous surface.
Avoid carpet, fabric, unfinished wood, dirty tables, and other surfaces where slime can collect dust, fibers, hair, or debris.
3. START SLOWLY
When you first open your slime, gently knead and stretch it before getting aggressive with your pulls.
Different slime textures behave differently, so give yourself a moment to get familiar with yours.
WHY IS MY SLIME STICKY?
Don't panic!
Sticky slime is one of the most common slime problems — and it's usually easy to fix.
Slime can become sticky because of:
-
Warm temperatures
-
Hot hands
-
Changes during shipping
-
Natural changes over time
-
Frequent play
-
Improper storage
Slime tends to soften in warm conditions, so your slime may arrive softer during summer or after travelling through a warm delivery truck.
HOW TO FIX STICKY SLIME
This is where slime activator comes in.
Add a small amount of activator to your slime and gently knead it in.
Test the texture.
Still sticky?
Add another small amount and knead again.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: LESS IS MORE!
Don't add a large amount of activator all at once.
Too much activator can make your slime stiff, rubbery, or difficult to stretch.
Add a little.
Knead.
Test.
Repeat if necessary.
That's the secret.
WHAT IS SLIME ACTIVATOR?
Slime activator helps control the consistency of slime and is especially useful when slime becomes too sticky.
Think of activator as your slime's little rescue tool.
When used correctly, it can help transform an overly sticky slime back into a more playable texture.
We recommend keeping your Slimeminator Activator Pen nearby whenever you play.
How to use your Slimeminator Activator Pen:
Step 1: Add a small amount to the slime.
Step 2: Knead the slime thoroughly.
Step 3: Test the texture.
Step 4: If it's still too sticky, repeat.
Never add a large amount at once.
WHY IS MY SLIME HARD OR NOT STRETCHY?
The opposite problem can happen too.
Sometimes slime becomes stiff, tough, rubbery, or difficult to stretch.
Common causes include:
-
Cold temperatures
-
Too much activator
-
Slime drying out
-
Leaving the container open
-
Natural changes after repeated play
If your slime is cold from shipping, allow it to reach room temperature before trying to change the texture.
If you've accidentally added too much activator, seal the slime in its container and give it some time. Slime can naturally soften.
Whatever you do, don't keep adding activator to slime that's already stiff!
HOW DO I KEEP SLIME FROM DRYING OUT?
Slime and air aren't best friends.
Leaving slime exposed to air for too long can cause it to dry out.
The easiest solution?
KEEP THE LID ON! 🔒
After every play session:
-
Put all of the slime back into its container.
-
Make sure the lid is completely closed.
-
Store the container at room temperature.
-
Keep it away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
Don't leave your slime sitting uncovered while you go do something else.
Your slime wants to go home too. 😉
HOW SHOULD I STORE SLIME?
Proper slime storage can help extend the life of your slime.
For best results:
DO:
✓ Keep slime tightly sealed
✓ Store at room temperature
✓ Keep away from direct sunlight
✓ Keep away from excessive heat
✓ Play with clean hands
✓ Use a clean surface
AVOID:
✕ Leaving slime uncovered
✕ Storing slime in direct sunlight
✕ Playing on dirty surfaces
✕ Mixing food or random liquids into your slime
✕ Adding too much activator
HOW LONG DOES SLIME LAST?
One of the most common questions we hear is:
"Does slime expire?"
Slime doesn't have one exact lifespan.
How long your slime remains enjoyable depends on several factors, including:
-
Slime texture
-
How frequently you play with it
-
How clean your hands are
-
Storage
-
Temperature
-
How long it's exposed to air
-
How it's cared for
With proper slime care and storage, you can significantly improve your slime's playable life.
Remember: slime is a handmade product designed to be played with, so some changes over time are completely normal.
WHY IS MY SLIME SHRINKING?
Your slime isn't secretly disappearing!
Small amounts of slime can gradually be lost during normal play.
Tiny pieces may stick to your:
-
Hands
-
Table
-
Container
-
Add-ins
-
Play surface
Snow-based slime textures may also experience some fallout during repeated play.
SLIMEMINATOR TIP 💡
Before putting your slime away, use the slime itself to pick up any little pieces left on your play surface.
It's basically a slime vacuum.
WHY DOES MY SLIME LOOK DIFFERENT FROM WHEN I BOUGHT IT?
That's completely normal.
Slime changes as you play with it.
Colors can mix.
Clay can blend into the base.
Glitter and charms move around.
Clear slime can become cloudy after handling.
Some slimes inflate and become much larger after play.
DIY slime kits can transform into an entirely different texture after they're mixed.
That's part of the fun!
Every slime evolves as you play with it.

🧪 DIY SLIME KIT CARE
DIY slime kits are designed to transform.
Depending on the slime, you'll mix clay pieces, toppers, decorations, or other components into the base.
Once everything is mixed together, your slime may become much larger than the original container can hold.
That's a good thing!
If your slime doesn't fit back into its original jar after mixing or inflating, store the extra slime in another clean, airtight container.
SLIME CARE FAQ
Is slime edible?
No. Slime is NOT edible and should never be eaten.
Even when a slime looks or smells like your favorite dessert, it's made for playing — not eating.
Can slime get sticky during shipping?
Yes.
Warm temperatures can soften slime during transportation.
Allow the slime to reach room temperature, then use a small amount of activator if necessary.
Why did my clear slime become cloudy?
Playing introduces tiny air bubbles into clear slime, making it appear cloudy.
This is normal.
After the slime rests in its sealed container, some of those bubbles can gradually disappear.
Why is my slime stiff when it arrives?
Cold temperatures can make slime feel firmer.
Allow it to reach room temperature before deciding whether the texture needs adjustment.
Can I add lots of activator to fix slime faster?
No!
This is probably one of the most important slime care rules.
Adding too much activator can make slime stiff and rubbery.
Always add small amounts at a time.
What surface should I play with slime on?
Choose a clean, smooth, non-porous surface.
Avoid carpet, fabric, unfinished wood and dirty surfaces.
Can slime stain?
Slime can contain pigments, dyes and other ingredients, so avoid playing with it on valuable fabrics, carpets, furniture, unfinished wood or other surfaces that could stain.
